HARARE – Zimbabwe has named its ‘A’ side to face touring Pakistan ‘A’ in a four-day match in Kwekwe starting on Wednesday.
The squad sees the return of former Zimbabwe Under-19 captain Dion Myers, who is on a break from university studies in the United Kingdom. Myers, who has played three ODIs for Zimbabwe, decided to put on hold his international careers to pursue a degree in agriculture.
The 16-man Zimbabwe ‘A’ squad is a mixture of players knocking hard on the doors of national selectors – like batter Johnthan Campbell and wicketkeeper Nyasha Mavayo – as well some who have had a small taste of international cricket in the past and those slowly getting established in the senior side.
Five players – batsmen Milton Shumba and Tanunurwa Makoni, spin-bowling all-rounder Brandon Mavuta as well as pacer Brad Evans – featured in Zimbabwe’s two-match Test series against the West Indies in Bulawayo in February.
The Zimbabwe ‘A’ captain is expected to be named hours before the match begins at Kwekwe Sports Club.
