Apart from an innings of 86 from Antum Naqvi, Canada completely dominated the third unofficial one-day international match against Zimbabwe ‘A’ at Harare Sports Club on Saturday, winning by seven wickets.
The hosts rotated their players, with Tinashe Chiorah opening the innings this time with Tanunurwa Makoni, but both were out to Ajayveer Hundel for 16 runs on the board.
There followed a partnership of 61 for the third wicket between Matthew Welch and Naqvi, but after the former went for 16 off 35 balls two more wickets fell quickly, making the score 82 for five in the 19th over.
Naqvi continued to bat well and was joined by Luke Jongwe, the captain for the day, in the only other substantial partnership of the innings, as they added 75 together in 18 overs.
Naqvi was finally dismissed for a fine innings of 86, made off 102 balls with nine fours, while Jongwe lasted a little longer for a score of 38.
Ainsley Ndlovu with 12 was the only batter from the tail to reach double figures, and the innings closed for a total of 190 off 46.2 overs.
Three Canadian bowlers took two wickets each, the best figures being returned by Hundel, who took two for 19 off four overs in his opening spell and was not called upon again.
Hundel opened the batting, but was out quickly for one, caught at the wicket off Brad Evans in the second over.
There followed a second-wicket partnership of 106 between Aaron Johnson and Pargat Singh in less than 16 overs, as they quite dominated the bowling.
Johnson was out at 113 for a brisk 31, but Singh hit out brilliantly, racing towards his century.
Shreyas Movva scored 16 and Dilpreet Bajwa was on 16 not out when the match was won in the 26th over with a score of 191 for three.
Singh finished with 117 not out off only 78 balls, hitting 14 fours and four sixes.
There was one wicket each to Evans, Naqvi and Jongwe.
Canada therefore won the series by two matches to one, after losing the first match. – ZimCricket Media
