HARARE – Over a year after injury interrupted his promising international cricket career, all-rounder Brad Evans will be keen to break back into the Zimbabwe squad through the national ‘A’ side set to take on touring Canada next week.

27-year-old Evans is part of a 17-man Zimbabwe ‘A’ side that has been picked to play the Canadians in Harare on 26 and 28 February as well as 1 March. The fit-again right-arm pacer and batter had played a single Test, 15 ODIs and eight T20Is for Zimbabwe when injuries threatened to ravage his career.

The selected Zimbabwean second-string outfit – coached by Erick Chauluka – is a blend of youth and experience. Timycen Maruma, the 36-year-old veteran of the country’s domestic cricket circuit, is the oldest member of the squad.

The others are fringe members of the national side, and those still trying to get the attention of the national selectors.

“Canada arrived in Harare last Friday, with their preparations including two warm-up matches against a Zimbabwe Academy side on 20 and 23 February,” said Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) in a statement Thursday.

“This series aligns with ZC’s commitment to providing more competitive opportunities for emerging players while strengthening Zimbabwe’s cricketing depth.”
