HARARE – Khama Billiat has joined new Zimbabwean top-flight club Scottland FC after just one season with another local side Yadah FC.
The Zimbabwe pin-up boy returned home last year to sign for Yadah on a US$5 000 monthly salary. Billiat had declined to stay on at South African giants Kaizer Chiefs on a lesser contract after his previous deal came to an end.
Scottland FC, promoted into Zimbabwe’s PSL at the end of last year albeit under controversial circumstances, are owned by wealthy Zimbabwean interprenuer Scott Sakupwanya.
The youthful gold and fuel magnate named his club after himself.
Scottland, who have been on a signing spree ahead of the new Zimbabwean season, didn’t immediately release details of 34-year-old Billiat’s deal.
Skilful playmaker Billiat’s arrival is the biggest statement of intent yet by the club.
The big-spending newcomers have also secured the signatures of other top local players including the country’s 2024 Footballer of the Year, Walter Musona.
The young brother of former Zimbabwe talisman Knowledge Musona has moved from new champions Simba Bhora.
Like Billiat, the younger Musona had been linked with a return to the South African league following the expiry of their respective contracts in Zimbabwe, but Scottland are believed to have offered irresistible packages for them to stay at home.
Scottland hasn’t been active on the player market alone. They have also been bolstering their technical department.
Coach Tonderai Ndiraya, who guided Simba Bhora to its maiden title in the just-ended season, has also resisted the temptation to feature in the African Champions League this year. Ndiraya was at the end of the 2024 season appointed Scottland’s new coach. The club immediately sent him on an coaching attachment to Turkey.
