HARARE – Zimbabwean rugby has been plunged into mourning following the sudden death on Sunday of 30-year-old former Harare Sports Club winger Tyler Rowe.
Originally from Bulawayo, Rowe excelled in his chosen sport as a schoolboy at the nearby Falcon College before turning out for club side Matabeleland Busters in his hometown.
Moving to the capital city for work, Rowe joined Harare Sports Club, instantly fitting into the team culture and delivering many eye-catching performances.
The Red Lions have led tributes to the affable Rowe, a well-liked figure known for his long curly hairstyles.
Said Harare Sports Club in a statement: “Tyler Rowe was not just a valued member of our club but a cornerstone of our team, whose presence both on and off the field made a lasting impact. His powerful runs, relentless determination, and unyielding commitment to the game inspired us all to strive for greatness, even in the face of challenges.
“Off the field, Tyler’s camaraderie, sportsmanship, and genuine character brought us together as a team and as a family. His dedication to the sport and to his teammates exemplified the values we hold dear, and his absence leaves a void that will be difficult to fill.
“As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate the legacy he leaves behind—a legacy of passion, perseverance, and teamwork.
“Our deepest and most heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and all who were touched by his incredible spirit. Tyler will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.”
Among those to pass on their condolences were former Zimbabwe Rugby Union (ZRU) CEO Colleen de Jong as well as ex-national team players Jan Ferreira, Kuda Chiwanza and Ranga Zembe.
