HARARE – The two-year-old son of Tarisai Musakanda has died suddenly a day after the troubled cricketer escaped with a community service conviction for an attempted murder charge against the child’s mother.
Dark days have continued to follow 29-year-old Musakanda – who recently returned home to Zimbabwe from England after becoming the first Barton Cricket Club batsman in 40 years to score more than 1 000 runs in a season.
No sooner had Musakanda settled home in Zimbabwe than he fell into serious trouble again.
Last week, Musakanda was arrested and detained in Zimbabwe’s Midlands town of Kwekwe after he stabbed his wife Tinodiwanashe Makunike following a domestic dispute.
On Thursday, he was reportedly convicted and sentenced to perform several hours of community service.
Musakanda was in 2020 fired by Australian team New City Cricket Club following a drink-driving penalty before he went on to be charged with culpable homicide two years later in Harare after he accidentally, whilst driving, ran over ex-tennis star Gwinyai Chingoka to his death.
This Friday, a close friend told SportsCast that the family was “absolutely shattered” by the loss of the child, nicknamed “Spuky”.
“I cannot even begin to talk about how punishing life has been for Tari over these past years,” he said.
“Everyone in the family is absolutely shattered, it’s just tragic.”
