HARARE – Zimbabwe are all but out of the next Africa Cup of Nations edition after the country was left out of next week’s draw because of an international ban by world football governing body Fifa.
Zimbabwe was suspended from all forms of football by Fifa as sanction for government interference in the affairs of the national federation, Zifa, which was fired by the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) late last year.
The SRC, a government appointed body that oversees all sports in the South African country, has been under pressure to reverse the Zifa decision to enable Fifa to uplift the international ban.
The body has however dug in its heels, insisting that Zifa officials will only be reinstated following the completion of a forensic audit launched to prove the financial activities of the country’s football ruling body.
