Zimbabwe will get a glimpse into their future when they face Ireland with a new-look squad in the three one-day international matches at Harare Sports Club starting on Wednesday.

Seven of the players picked for this series were not part of the side that participated in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023 in June-July, the last time Zimbabwe played the 50-over format.

While the veteran duo of captain Craig Ervine and Sean Williams as well as Brad Evans have been ruled out of the series due to injury, the selectors have overlooked Tendai Chatara, Wessly Madhevere and Tadiwanashe Marumani.

The new faces are Takudzwanashe Kaitano, Tinashe Kamunhukamwe, Tanaka Chivanga, Faraz Akram, Brandon Mavuta, Milton Shumba and Tony Munyonga.

Apart from Raza and Kaia, all the players selected are aged 30 and below.

In the absence of Ervine, Raza will lead the team and he will be counting on the experience of Richard Ngarava, Blessing Muzarabani, Wellington Masakadza and Ryan Burl to give Zimbabwe the edge in the series against Ireland.

The three ODI matches are scheduled for 13, 15 and 17 December at Harare Sports Club, all starting at 0915 hours local time.
