HARARE – Highly gifted and young Zimbabwean rugby players continue to “open doors for others” after loose-forward Shingi Manyarara was signed by French Top 14 club Racing 92 this week on a three-year deal.

Manyarara, who has been drafted into Zimbabwe’s squad for the forthcoming World Under-20 Rugby Trophy in Kenya, was not included in the Young Sables side that retained its Africa Cup title in April as he was undergoing trials with the Paris club.

The trials went according to plan for the steely back row.

It’s a big breakthrough for the big loosie, who is known for his power, speed and line breaks.

“I’m happy for Shingirayi and the talented young players coming out of Zim,” Zimbabwe Under-20 coach Shaun De Souza told SportsCast.

“He follows TJ Maguranyanga, and have opened doors for others, which is great for the game.”

Manyarara hails from Mutare and attended Hillcrest College in the Zimbabwean eastern border city before receiving a bursary to complete his senior school at Kingswood College in South Africa last year. He left with Honours for rugby.

He was good enough to be selected, last year, in Eastern Province’s Craven Week team after stellar performances for the Grahamstown school.
