BULAWAYO – Zimbabwe’s heart-breaking failure to qualify for the Cricket World Cup has come at great distress and anguish for the wife of the team’s superstar Sean Williams, the equally sporty Chantelle.
Chantelle, who also hails from Bulawayo like all-rounder Sean, is a key member of Zimbabwe’s hockey team, both having met through sporting connections in their home town.
After Zimbabwe lost by 31 runs to Scotland on Tuesday in Bulawayo, to be eliminated from World Cup qualification, Chantelle Twitted a picture of hers at Queens Sports Club, in Williams’ Zimbabwe shirt, and an Emoji of a broken heart. She is seen being consoled by a friend of hers.

Just like Chantelle, Williams has strong hockey background. His “Golden Girl” mother, Patricia, was the top goal-scorer when
Zimbabwe sensationally clinched the women’s field hockey gold medal at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow.
Collin ‘Porge’ Williams, his late father, was a former national hockey captain and coach. Half-brother Michael McKillop captained Zimbabwe in hockey, whilst brother Matt Williams also became a Zimbabwe hockey international.
Sean Williams himself is a competent hockey player, having been around provincial and national team squads.
