HARARE – Zimbabwe Women Sevens rugby team coach Cyprian Mandenge has picked a provisional squad of 15 ahead of Africa’s Olympic Games qualifiers in Tunisia mid-October.

The traveling side will be trimmed to 12 next weekend, following a training camp in Harare, ahead of the trip to North Africa.

The Lady Cheetahs will be out to make amends after their Zimbabwe male counterparts failed to secure a place at Paris 2024 during a continental qualification competition in Harare, Zimbabwe, a fortnight ago.

Mandenge said his charges – captained by the experienced Delight Mukomondo – are targeting history in Tunisia.

“We are going to fight for the Olympics ticket, and that is our target,” Mandenge told SportsCast.

“We are treating every team with respect, and we will take it game by game. Our first challenge is South Africa, who we are playing first. I believe and trust the girls have put their hands up to represent the country.”
