HARARE – Zimbabwe’s Kudakwashe “Take Money” Chiwandire has retained her World Boxing Council super-bantamweight interim women’s title after comfortably winning an unanimous points decision over Mexican challenger Zulina Munoz on Friday night.

The bout, held at the Harare International Conference Centre, had been dubbed as the biggest boxing event ever to be staged in Zimbabwe.

The 27-year-old Chiwandire, in winning, has earned herself at least US$20 000 and other endorsement revenue, pledged by local well-wishers including the country’s wealthy deputy Sports Minister. She is appropriately nicknamed “Take Money” by her growing legion of fans.

The other incentive for the fiery Zimbabwean fighter is that she becomes a mandatory challenger for the belt following the win over Munoz.

On Friday night before a partisan home crowd in the Zimbabwean capital, Chiwandire defended her title with a comfortable points victory over the more experienced Mexican.
