HARARE – Manchester United have honoured former Zimbabwe captain Benjani Mwaruwari by remembering the day he signed for the English and European champions.
Benjani was brought to City by manager Sven-Göran Eriksson on 31 January 2008 for a fee of £3.87 million from fellow Premiership side Portsmouth.
The 45-year-old forward made 23 appearances for the Citizens between 2008 and 2010, scoring just four goals before he was loaned to Sunderland in 2010.
“#OnThisDay in 2008, we signed Benjani!” posted Manchester City on X.
Benjani finished his career at Bitvest Wits in South Africa during the 2013-14 season.
