HARARE – New Zimbabwe football coach Michael Nees says previous encounters with Zimbabwean opposition motivated him to apply for the Warriors job

“I had some experience with Zimbabwe as an opponent,” Nees told reporters at his unveiling on Thursday in Harare.

“I was always impressed about the talent, and I’m happy to work with this talent now.”

Nees, who has coached Rwanda and Seychelles – attributed Zimbabwe’s failures to change of coaches.

The 57-year-old will now ne tasked with guiding Zimbabwe to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco, with qualifiers set to begin this September.

“I think in the past you have had too many people and coaches,” Nees said.

“In the past 20 years you’ve had 20 different coaches. I think that’s a little bit a lot. I hope that we can invite a new journey. Together in one direction.”

Asked if he will be happy working with local Zimbabwean coaches as his assistants, Nees said: “I will be an unwise coach not to consult staff.”
