HARARE – Legendary West Indies fast bowler Courtney Walsh has sparked some speculation with his presence in Zimbabwe over the country’s vacant senior men’s national team coaching job, but it has since emerged the Jamaican is in the African country as a consultant for the women side.
Zimbabwe Women are currently hosting Papua New Guinea in a white-ball series, with the 61-year-old Walsh being hired by ZC to assist the Lady Chevrons head coach Walter Chawaguta.
Walsh, who arrived in Harare last week, was sacked as West Indies Women coach in April 2023 after the Caribbean side’s failure to qualify for the knockout stages of the T20 World Cup in South Africa.
Meanwhile, ZC has since advertised for the men team’s coaching position to replace Dave Houghton, who resigned last December following a string of poor results. It is not clear if Walsh’s visit to Zimbabwe is also in connection with that role, or if he applied at all.
