HARARE – Dynamos have been fined for the crowd trouble that ensued in Bulawayo in May, with the match being awarded to great rivals Highlanders following a disciplinary process.
The match, in the Zimbabwean PSL, was abandoned in the final moments after fans of visiting side Dynamos invaded the pitch and uprooted a goalpost in protest when host Highlanders scored a last-gasp goal at Barbourfields Stadium to take a 1-0 lead in a tightly-contested affair.
Harare giants Dynamos, who are hunting for their first Zimbabwean league title since 2014, have been fined US$7 5 000 in addition to losing all three points to Highlanders in a PSL disciplinary judgment.
Reads the verdict: “Dynamos FC have been found guilty of breaching the PSL Rules and Regulations and fined a sum of US$7 500 together with the costs of hearing, all of which shall be paid within fifteen days of receipt of the judgment. In addition the match has been awarded to Highlanders FC on a three nil score line.”
Meanwhile, for an earlier pitch invasion in the same match, Highlanders were found guilty and fined US$5 000.
