BULAWAYO – Former cricket player Dumisani Mankunzini has been denied bail after his arrest earlier this month on a litany of fraud-related charges.
He has been remanded in custody by a Bulawayo Magistrate until 2 December.
Mankunzini was not represented, and no lawyer sought his release. He has been languishing in prison since 4 November when he was arrested for attempting to check into a city hotel using fake US dollars banknotes, conning two medical doctors of cash and fleeing from another hotel without paying his bill.
The former club cricketer, who reached his highest level in the game playing a handful of matches for the second team of provincial team Matabeleland Tuskers, swindled several people of varying amounts of money after posing as a former Zimbabwe national team player for a lengthy period.
Mankunzini has been accused by several people in both Zimbabwe and South Africa of defrauding them using various fraudulent methods.
