MELBOURNE – Sri Lanka defeated Zimbabwe by 33 runs in a 2022 T20 World Cup warm-up game at the Melbourne Cricket Stadium.

Chasing a 189-run target to defeat the 2014 champions, Zimbabwe could must only 155-5 in their allotted 20 overs.

Wessly Madhevere top scored for Zimbabwe with 43 before being retired hurt.

Milton Shumba scored 32.

For Sri Lanka, Maheesh Theekshana picked up 3-44 while Chamika Karunaratne finished with figures of 2-26.

Earlier, Sri Lanka posted 188-5 in their allotted 20 overs.

Kusal Mendis top-scored with 54 in just 29 balls. Mendis hit six fours and three sixes.

His opening partner Pathum Nissanka scored 21.

The pair put on 57 runs for the opening wicket.

At the latter part of the innings, Wanindu Hasaranga scored 37 in 14 deliveries which included four fours and two sixes.

Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine this morning won the toss and elected to field first.
